The National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) is a multidisciplinary research institute located in Bangalore, India. We are searching for a postdoctoral level social scientist to work in our research programme entitled :

Provincial Globalisation : The Impact of Reverse Transnational Flows in India Regional Towns

This is an international collaborative programme of the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR), University of Amsterdam (UvA), and NIAS. The five-year research programme explores processes of globalisation at the regional level by mapping transnational networks and flows of resources connecting migrants with their home regions, and the influence of these transfers on local political, economic, and social-cultural structures and processes.

Eligibility
The selected researcher will design and carry out an independent project on transnational migration and resource flows from migrants. Candidates should have finished the PhD degree in any social science (except economics), preferably with specialisation in migration, transnational, and/or development studies. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, a sound conceptual/ theoretical grounding in his/ her discipline, the ability to utilise and combine diverse data sources at different scales, and excellent writing and organisational skills. The postdoctoral researcher will work in an international multidisciplinary team that includes specialisations in anthropology, sociology and economics. This is a full-time two-year position based at NIAS. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Recrutement d’un(e) post-doctorant(e) en CDD de 12 mois renouvelables

L’INED recrute un(e) jeune chercheur(se) titulaire d’un doctorat d’une université française ou étrangère pour un stage post-doctoral dans le domaine de l’étude des populations. La personne recrutée bénéficiera d’une allocation du Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche d’une durée d’un an, renouvelable une fois. Le montant net de l’allocation est d’environ 1800 Euros mensuels.

Cette personne travaillera sous la responsabilité d’un tuteur et sera rattachée à une des unités de recherche de l’INED, dont la liste figure sur le site internet de l’institution à l’adresse suivante :

Ce programme de bourses d’études a pour objet le développement des connaissances sur la société, la culture et l’histoire du Cambodge. Il vise à permettre à des étudiants-chercheurs français de niveau doctoral et post-doctoral, de pouvoir se rendre au Cambodge. Ce programme a également pour objectif d’aider les candidats à s’intégrer au sein de la communauté scientifique internationale et cambodgienne travaillant sur le Cambodge. Les bourses doivent couvrir les frais de voyage et de séjour d’étude au Cambodge. Les candidats sélectionnés devront prendre contact avec le CEK au Cambodge.

Les candidatures pour mener des recherches au Cambodge s’appliquent aux catégories suivantes :
– Bourses de recherche doctorale. Elles s’adressent aux chercheurs doctorants. Elles doivent leur permettre de mener à bien leurs recherches de terrain nécessaires à l’accomplissement de leur thèse doctorale ainsi que d’acquérir une formation linguistique en khmer. Les candidats doivent être de nationalité française. Les bourses de recherche doctorales sont conçues pour des périodes courtes et longues pouvant aller jusqu’à 11 mois au plus.
– Bourses de recherche post-doctorale. Elles s’adressent aux candidats de nationalité française déjà titulaires d’un doctorat ou de son équivalent. Elles concernent les chercheurs spécialisés dans les études khmères ou ceux souhaitant élargir leur champ d’investigation à l’étude du Cambodge. Les « Prix de la Francophonie pour jeunes chercheurs » ont pour but de reconnaître le mérite et la valeur d'un(e) chercheur(se) ayant acquis une reconnaissance scientifique et ayant réalisé une percée significative internationale, en particulier dans le cadre de la Francophonie.
Les Prix sont ouverts dans les champs disciplinaires suivants :
- sciences et médecine,
- sciences humaines et sociales.
Les Prix s'adressent à des candidats(es) :
- âgé(e)s de moins de 45 ans,
- titulaires d'un doctorat ou d'un doctorat d'Etat,
- justifiant d'une activité de recherche après la thèse comprise entre 4 et 10 ans.
- rattaché(e)s à des établissements membres de l'AUF.

KITLV post-doctoral fellowship opportunity - Medical history in early-modern Southeast Asia.

KITLV has established a scholarship for the study of Early-Modern Southeast Asia (EMSA), which is roughly defined as the period between the fifteenth century and the beginning of the Age of Modern Imperialism, around 1870.

For 2011, KITLV is looking for a historian, specialized in Southeast Asian medical history, who will participate in the KITLV project History of Health, Disease and Medicine in Southeast Asia.
KITLV invites scholars who have obtained a PhD to apply for this Postdoc position. The beneficiary of an EMSA scholarship is expected to conduct his/ her project primarily at KITLV, and to prepare a substantial publication.
The fellowship amounts to 20,000 Euros. All expenditure will have to be covered from this sum, including transport, housing, insurance, and research costs. The fellow will be given research and office facilities at KITLV, in the pleasant town of Leiden, the Netherlands.
In principle, candidates from outside the Netherlands will be expected to reside in the Netherlands during a period of 4 to 6 months. For people from the Netherlands the fellowship will cover a period of max. 3 months.

Supervision will be provided by Prof. Peter Boomgaard, senior researcher KITLV. Applications are invited for (Senior) Research Fellowships, One-Year Visiting (Senior) Research Fellowships and Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Asia Research Institute (ARI) for commencement between April 2011 and September 2011.
The positions are intended for outstanding active researchers from around the world, to work on an important piece of research in the social sciences and humanities. Interdisciplinary interests are encouraged.  Up to three months of a 12-month fellowship may be spent conducting fieldwork in the Asian region.
A majority of the positions will be allocated to the more specific areas listed below.  However some will be reserved for outstanding projects in any area outside of those listed.  Applicants should mention which category they are applying to or if none, indicate “open category”.  Applications which link more than one field are also welcome.

   3. Support for research and fieldwork, and conference attendance (on application and subject to approval).
   4. Candidates must have fulfilled all requirements of the PhD within the last 2 years. If you are a PhD candidate at the point of application, you may also apply provided that you are confirmed for graduation between April to September 2011. A letter from your university will be required to confirm your graduation before your proposed start date.
