Abstract
The Trade in Human Beings for Sex in Southeast Asia brings together 28 senior scholars and experts hailing from all over the world in various disciplines: Ethnology and Social Anthropology, Sociology, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Psycho-Criminology, Medicine, Law, Economics, History, as well as Humanitarian assistance to give a general statement on slavery, prostitution and trafficking in persons in this region. In recent years, prostitution and trafficking in women and children for the purpose of sexual exploitation have been steadily increasing at an alarmig rate. Underlying reasons are not only the ongoing process of globalization and the lagging behind of the concerned emerging economies, but also a number of cultural factors specific to this region. The problem’s background in given in Part 1: A look at the past; Part 2 provides the data from field studies in human trafficking and prostitution; Part 3 deals with additional related problems and suggests possible responses. An indispensable work covering all aspects of this complex problem and proffering suggestions to deal with it.(Résumé : The Trade in Human Beings for Sex in Southeast Asia réunit vingt-huit chercheurs et experts chevronnés du monde entier dans différentes disciplines : ethnologie et anthropologie sociale, sociologie, géographie, sciences politiques, psychologie, psycho-criminologie, médecine, droit, économie, histoire, et aide humanitaire, pour proposer un état des lieux général sur l'esclavage, la prostitution et le trafic des personnes dans cette région. Depuis quelques années, la prostitution et le trafic des femmes et des enfants à fins d'exploitation sexuelle y ont augmenté de façon constante à un rythme alarmant. Les raisons profondes n'en sont pas seulement le processus de mondialisation en cours ni le retard économique des nations émergentes concernées, mais aussi un certain nombre de facteurs culturels caractéristiques de cette région. La première partie décrit la toile de fond du problème : "Regard sur le passé" ; la deuxième expose les données issues d'études de terrain sur le trafic de personnes et la prostitution ; et la troisième s'intéresse à d'autres questions connexes et propose des réponses possibles. Cet ouvrage indispensable couvre tous les aspects de ce problème complexe et suggère des solutions pour l'affronter.)
