Né en 1926, Harold Conklin, linguiste et botaniste, fut un pionnier de l’ethnoscience. La publication de sa thèse en 1954 The Relation of Hanunόo to the Plant World fut la pierre angulaire d’une nouvelle réflexion pour les générations suivantes d’ethnobotanistes. Harold Conklin dédia sa vie de terrain aux Philippines. En 1980, il publia son Ethnographic Atlas of Ifugao, a Study of Environment, Culture, and Society in Northern Luzon.
Exceptionnellement à Paris pour le jury d’une thèse, un séminaire en son honneur a lieu vendredi 18 juin à 14h, amphithéâtre de Paléontologie, Muséum d’Histoire naturelle, 2 rue Buffon, 75005. Métro Austerlitz. L’amphithéâtre se situe à droite dans la galerie de Paléontologie.
